It is my pleasure and great privilege to present to you the introductory issue of Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology (JGO), the official journal of the Society for Gastrointestinal Oncology (SGO). This new peer-reviewed journal promises to make a significant impact upon the field of gastrointestinal oncology, publishing data on cancers of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, liver, biliary tree, pancreas, small bowel, large bowel, rectum, and anus. The aim of JGO is to provide a forum for the dissemination of original research articles as well as review articles in all areas related to gastrointestinal cancers. It is an international, open-access journal with a focus on cutting-edge findings in this rapidly changing field, while providing practical up-to-date information on diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancer. The journal features a distinguished editorial board, which brings together a team of highly experienced specialists in gastrointestinal cancer treatment and research. The diverse experience of the board members allows our editorial panel to lend their expertise to a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal oncology subjects.
JGO strives to report the most recent advances in translational and clinical research in the field of gastrointestinal oncology. JGO will feature: (1) Original Articles: Reporting on novel and original findings, and clinical observations accompanied by analysis and discussion; (2) Clinical Trial Notes: Reports that include concise descriptions of trial backgrounds/rationale, endpoints, eligibility criteria, treatment methods, scheduled analyses, and statistical considerations; (3) Case Reports: Articles with new findings that may alter the disease concept of gastrointestinal oncology; (4) Genetics Reports: Previously undescribed pathogenic germline mutations in hereditary cancer syndromes or related diseases as pedigree case reports; (5) Epidemiology Reports: New data in gastrointestinal oncology epidemiology derived from periodic or ad hoc surveillance; (6) Technical Reports: Originally devised techniques for gastrointestinal oncology diagnosis or treatment; (7) Short Communications: Small scale studies that include important new information; (8) Letters to the Editor: Letters commenting on articles published previously in the Journal or expressing views on topics relevant to GI oncology.
JGO will be published quarterly by Pioneer Bioscience Publishing Company; all articles will be submitted electronically. The entire submission and review process will be managed through Editorial Manager, an electronic system utilized to manage over 100 various journals. We are confident that authors and reviewers using this system of manuscript submission and review will find it user-friendly and straightforward.
Our goal is to provide the reader of JGO with a new, well-constructed, informative, and educational journal. The entire editorial board and I strongly encourage you to submit novel and enlightening manuscripts to educate and support the growing field of gastrointestinal oncology. If you wish to submit a manuscript or to view the journal home page, please go to www.thejgo.org. Lastly, I consider it an honor to be the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology, and, with my team of motivated and qualified editors, look forward to making JGO a marquee journal in the field of oncology.
